The Thunderbird of Native Americans

Thunderbird | The Canadian Encyclopedia

The magical myth of the Thunderbird, the protector of all things evil. The Thunderbird is an enormous symbol of power and strength. The name originates in the flapping of the strong wings that sound like thunder. The Thunderbird did protect villages and towns from evil spirits, however if it stayed too long it could also be detrimental to the people of that town. Legend states that the Thunderbird attracted storms. Meaning, if the Thunderbird wasn’t there enough the town could suffer a drought. But, if the Thunderbird came by for too long then the town would have floods and a long stormy night. The Thunderbird had to find the perfect balance.

Statues and totems like this one are used to honor the legacy of the magestic Thunderbird and show the children of the world that there is good and evil
